My Hero Academia is a popular Japanese superhero manga series created by Kohei Horikoshi. The story follows Izuku Midoriya, an ordinary middle school student living in a world where most people have superpowers called “Quirks.” Despite being born without any special abilities and facing bullying from his classmates, Izuku dreams of becoming a hero.
His journey begins when he enrolls at U.A. High School, a prestigious academy that trains future heroes. Though initially mocked with the nickname “Deku” (meaning “useless”), Izuku embraces it after his classmate Ochako Uraraka points out how it sounds like “dekiru” (meaning “you can do it”), giving it a positive spin. As the first Quirkless student to become a hero (aside from his mentor, All Might), Izuku proves his determination by working alongside his classmates in Class 1-A. Eventually, he even adopts “Deku” as his official hero name, turning what was once an insult into a symbol of perseverance.
