Berserk is a dark fantasy manga series created by Kentaro Miura, set in a medieval-inspired world. By the time Guts returns to aid the surviving Hawks, he finds Griffith broken and mutilated, barely resembling his former self.
In a moment of desperation, Griffith unknowingly triggers a supernatural event using a mysterious artifact called the Behelit. This summons the God Hand, a group of demonic beings who offer Griffith ultimate power at a horrific cost. During the Eclipse—a nightmarish ritual—Griffith sacrifices his own soldiers to demonic apostles, becoming Femto, the newest member of the God Hand.
Guts and his lover Casca barely escape the massacre thanks to the enigmatic Skull Knight, but not without severe consequences. Guts loses an eye and an arm, while Casca suffers psychological trauma after being assaulted by Femto. The brutal betrayal leaves Guts consumed by vengeance, setting the stage for his relentless pursuit of Griffith.
