Two high school students, Masaru Kato and Kei Kurono, are killed by a subway train while trying to save a drunk homeless man who had fallen onto the tracks. After their deaths, they wake up in an empty Tokyo apartment, where they meet Joichiro Nishi, an experienced Gantz player, along with other confused newcomers. They quickly realize they can’t leave the apartment.
At one end of the room sits a large black sphere called “Gantz.” After some time, the sphere activates, revealing a bald, naked man wearing a breathing mask with wires attached to his head. It also provides them with various weapons, including specialized black suits that enhance their speed, strength, endurance, and durability. Other weapons include a controller that doubles as a stealth and radar device, an Xgun, an X Shotgun, and a Y-Firearm.
As the story progresses, even more powerful weapons become available, such as the Gantz sword and Gantz Bike, which can be unlocked through the 100-point menu system.
