*History’s Strongest Disciple Kenichi* is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Syun Matsuena. It was serialized in *Weekly Shonen Sunday* from August 2002 to September 2014.
The story follows Kenichi Shirahama, a timid 16-year-old high school student who has endured bullying for years. His life changes when he befriends Miu Furinji, a skilled martial artist. Inspired by her strength, Kenichi decides to train at Ryozanpaku, the dojo where Miu lives under the guidance of her grandfather, Hayato Furinji, and several other martial arts masters.
After learning from Miu and defeating a top member of his school’s karate club, Kenichi becomes a target for delinquents. Though he initially trains just to defend himself, he eventually becomes a full disciple of Ryozanpaku. His daily life soon revolves around intense training under the six masters while also facing off against Ragnarok, a gang of bullies who either try to recruit him or crush him.
After Ragnarok’s downfall, Kenichi and Miu find themselves pursued by Yomi—a group of elite fighters trained by Yami, a dark organization that opposes Ryozanpaku. While Ryozanpaku’s masters follow the principle of sparing lives (Katsujinken), Yami believes in victory by any means, even murder (Satsujinken). As the two factions clash, Kenichi and his allies battle Yomi while the masters take on Yami.
The conflict reaches its climax in a final battle to stop Yami’s ultimate goal—unleashing an era of chaos known as “The Eternal Sunset.” After their leader is defeated and the plan thwarted, both Yami and Yomi disband. Years later, Kenichi continues training at Ryozanpaku, eventually becoming a famous novelist—and possibly a martial arts master and Miu’s husband.
